St John Ambulance Malaysia (SJAM) unveils its one-of-a-kind new Ambulance buggy and is ready to serve the community.
Why is the new Ambulance buggy needed?
Accessibility for ambulances to respond to emergency calls is restricted due to the narrow streets in some parts of the city in Malaysia. In line with the city council’s efforts to reduce the carbon footprint, SJAM made an appeal for an electric buggy fitted with an ambulance stretcher. Thanks to one of the corporate donors, a buggy was donated to SJAM.
The Mayor of Melaka History City has also been concerned with the safety and well-being of visitors and tourists to the City of Melaka. There were instances when the arrival of medical personnel and ambulances was often delayed due to the heavy vehicle traffic at tourist hotspots.
How did the initiative come about?
The State Government of Melaka and The Melaka Historic City Council were impressed with the Pre-Hospital and Ambulance Hotspot Programme run by SJAM. The programme is a collaboration between SJAM and the Ministry of Health Malaysia.
To create a more resilient community, the Chief Minister of Melaka initiated the Community Paramedic Programme and roped in SJAM to collaborate due to our expertise and experience.
Who are the Community Paramedics?
The Community Paramedics are volunteers trained and qualified in First Aid by the State Health Department and SJAM. Qualified Community Paramedics are then equipped and stationed in their respective communities, which are funded by the state government.
.
SJAM hopes that such a public and private partnership will help to make our society and community resilient and safe for our future generations. SJAM is truly honoured and grateful for the trust, opportunity, and support given by the Chief Minister, Mayor, and the State Government of Melaka to enable us to be in the service of humanity.
The Ambulance Buggy will be stationed at the first aid station to assist with any emergencies.
