Sir David has a long record of loyal and devoted service to the Order. Up until 2023, this service had given within The Priory of England and the Islands where he fulfilled the roles of County President, Trustee, Member of the Priory’s Honours and Award Committee, and led fundraising efforts.
In 2023, Sir David agreed to take on a newly created senior volunteer role for St John International (SJI) as an ambassador leading our newly created Special Projects group. In this role he has been instrumental in leading St John International through the development of its new fundraising strategy.
This fundraising activity is a global “first” for the Order, and it has benefited greatly from Sir David’s generosity of his time and leadership and has immediate success that has been highly impactful on our work. Within his role leading Special Projects, Sir David has forged significant connections for the Order within his network of high-profile contacts and developed new connections with people and organisations that have an interest in the global work of the Order.

Sir David’s input has elevated the small International Office team’s capacity to tackle a fresh challenge and has enabled the Order to begin investing in programmes to fulfil our mission to be global leaders in first aid and community healthcare. In an extraordinarily short space of time Sir David has secured a significant amount of financial support for the Order’s international work and for the establishment of a sustainable global fundraising capability in the SJI office.
His plans for at least the next three years, with the support of the SJI team, will undoubtedly see the Order in a stronger financial position, with an increased execution of St John’s global mission.
Sir David has given loyal, devoted and skilled service to the Order in several ways of a long period of time and is richly deserving of this special recognition by the Order.
