Mr. Michael Lawrence was originally recognized for consideration as a Member of the Order for his exemplary local leadership as a Nursing Officer and active Medical First Responder (Brigade) volunteer.
He became a Member (V) in 2006, and his most recent promotion to Commander (III) was in 2016.
Mr. Lawrence actively participated in member development initiatives that enhanced the standard of patient care training with MFR volunteers, in addition to support to Council development initiatives, including the provision of subject-matter presentations at Council conferences and workshops. Mr. Lawrence is a strong advocate for competent and confident volunteer patient care delivery and is a testament to the motto of service to humanity.
Michael reflected on his experience on admission to the Order: “Since becoming a Member of the Order in 2005, I have continued to be an active St. John Ambulance volunteer Medical First Responder (MFR) and First Aid Instructor. Since that time, I have held various leadership roles and now serve as the Medical First Response Program Advisor for the Standards Committee of St. John Council for Ontario (one of the Provincial Councils within Canada). I have supported large event coverage as an MFR and leadership volunteer (including the Pan Am Games) and continue to train local MFR volunteers in the community I live in.”
