Earlier in March, a fire that raged across the Southern Section of Table Mountain National Park for a week was caused by an accidental, negligent act.
As the news of the fire broke out, Ricky Kleinhans, Assistant Commissioner of St John Youth Brigade wanted to be part of the rescue and relief efforts.
Along with Jackie Pittman, Commissioner and Jerome Ontong, Brigade Manager; they contacted local St John Brigade volunteers via social media and formed two crews for both day and night shifts.
The Brigade Office not only supplied all their available bottled water, they also ensured an advanced life support ambulance was on standby to support the fire fighters.
A St John South Africa Spokesperson said:
It was heart-warming to see St John Brigade working together, and our efforts being valued. Although the Brigade volunteers were only actively participated for one day, their efforts were really noticed and appreciated.
