As we enter the Chinese New Year, St John extends heartfelt wishes for a prosperous and joyful Year of the Snake. Symbolising wisdom, resilience, and transformation, the Snake encourages us to embrace new opportunities and strive for growth in every aspect of our lives. We wish you a year filled with peace, good health, and happiness for you and your loved ones. Together, let’s make this year one of success and positive change.
SJAM Emergency Ambulance Standby Service (EASS)
In conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations, St John Ambulance Malaysia (SJAM) will continue its long-standing tradition of providing the Emergency Ambulance Standby Service (EASS) during this busy period. Starting in 1995, this service sees SJAM volunteers stationed at key hotspots, particularly accident-prone areas on highways and trunk roads, to assist accident victims.
With the Chinese New Year being one of Malaysia’s most significant festivals, it is estimated that 2.6 million vehicles will be traveling across the country. To ensure the safety of all road users, SJAM will have 45 ambulances and 600 volunteers on standby for 24 hours a day at various locations. This service will support the Ministry of Health for four days, both before and after the festival. The EASS programme not only provides critical emergency assistance but also serves as a reminder to motorists to drive carefully, helping to prevent accidents in the first place.
SJAM volunteers are trained in advanced first aid skills and equipped with well-prepared ambulances, ready to respond to emergencies promptly. Additionally, the volunteers will participate in community engagement programs, such as visiting underprivileged homes, distributing festive goodies, and celebrating the spirit of Chinese New Year with those in need.

Chinese New Year Celebrations
Chinese New Year, or the Spring Festival, is one of the most anticipated festivals in Malaysia, and this year it will be celebrated on January 29, 2025. The first three days of the festival are particularly significant, as many Chinese Malaysians return to their hometowns to celebrate with family. The school holidays also allow for extended travel, with both Chinese and non-Chinese citizens taking the opportunity to reconnect with loved ones. The festival will span 15 days, bringing joy and togetherness to millions across the country.
As we celebrate the traditions of the Chinese New Year, we continue to focus on the values of care, service, and community. St John’s commitment to making a positive impact on society is reflected not only in our emergency services but also in our ongoing efforts to engage with and support those in need.
Wishing you a happy, safe, and prosperous Chinese New Year! May the Year of the Snake bring wisdom and new beginnings.
