The Guild of Young Freemen Announce Landmark Partnership with SJEHG

We are delighted to announce that the Guild of Young Freemen has selected the St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group (SJEHG) as its first permanently supported charity.  This landmark decision, approved unanimously at the Guild’s Michaelmas Court meeting, secures their support for the next 12 years, extending through to the Guild’s 60th anniversary in 2036.

This extraordinary commitment underscores the Guild’s dedication to expanding its charitable work beyond the annual Master’s Charity. The partnership was formally unveiled at the Guild’s Inaugural Christmas Banquet on Friday, 29th November 2024.

During the event, Guild Master Grace Abba announced the collaboration to an audience of Guild members and distinguished guests, including Sheriff David Chalk, representing the Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Alastair King MStJ DL, and Chief Commoner-Elect Henry Pollard. Representing SJEHG at the Banquet was Harriet Wheeler, Executive Head of the UK Office.

Master Grace shared her enthusiasm for the partnership, stating:

“Supporting such an important cause, the Guild looks forward to hosting events that unite SJEHG’s supporters and advance its mission. This collaboration highlights the Guild’s commitment to fostering a sense of purpose and community among young professionals connected to the City and Livery companies who seek to make a difference.”

Harriet Wheeler also expressed her gratitude, saying:

“We are deeply honoured to be chosen as the Guild’s first permanently supported charity. This partnership reflects a shared vision of creating a meaningful and lasting impact, bringing life-changing care to those in need. We are excited to work together with the Guild to further our mission with their invaluable support, and look forward to welcoming them at the Saving Sight Banquet in February. ”

The Saving Sight Banquet will take place on Wednesday 5th February at the Mansion House, hosted by The Right Honourable the Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Alastair King MStJ DL and Sir Andrew Cash OBE KStJ, Chair of the St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group (SJEHG).
